Every project we launch is designed to address real needs empowering individuals, improving systems, and inspiring long-term transformation.
From digital skills training to civic engagement, from community advocacy to inclusive innovation, our projects bring our mission to life in tangible ways that citizens can feel, experience, and build upon.

Nigeria We Want
Date: 2019. Partner: OSIWA
Partner: OSIWA
The #NigeriaWeWant project used an unconventional but powerful platform — football viewing centers — to promote civic education and accountability. We turned these popular community spaces into learning hubs where citizens discussed governance, leadership promises, and the importance of demanding accountability from elected officials.
Carried out across six states — Gombe, Imo, Cross River, Kaduna, Oyo, and the FCT — the initiative successfully simplified civic engagement using football as a relatable analogy. Citizens connected the passion of football with their civic duty to “watch the game” of governance and hold their leaders accountable.
OpenTheGatesNG
Date: 2019
Partners: Legal Aid CDS FCT & TAP Initiative
The Nigerian prison system remains one of the most overcrowded in Africa, and many inmates are held simply because they cannot afford minor fines. Through the #OpenTheGatesNG project, TAP Initiative partnered with the Legal Aid CDS in FCT to bring freedom to individuals detained for petty offenses at the Suleja Prison.
We identified inmates who had completed their sentences but were still behind bars due to unpaid fines — and we paid those fines on their behalf. Upon release, beneficiaries were enrolled in skill acquisition programs to help them rebuild their lives, gain meaningful employment, and reduce the risk of reoffending.
This project restored dignity, offered second chances, and reaffirmed our belief that justice must always be fair and humane.
#PVCFootball
Date: 2019
Partner: Open Society Foundation
Through #PVCFootball, we combined Nigeria’s love for football with the urgent need for voter participation. In partnership with the Open Society Foundation, TAP Initiative hosted a historic match in Lagos between the 1994 and 2013 AFCON-winning teams. The entry ticket? A Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC).
The campaign ignited nationwide excitement — motivating thousands of Nigerians to register, collect their PVCs, and prepare to vote in the 2019 general elections. Viewing centers were also established across all six geopolitical zones, creating spaces for civic education, peaceful participation, and discouraging vote buying and election violence.
COVID-19 Food Drive
Date: 2020
Partner: UPS Foundation
During the nationwide lockdown, the #COVID19FoodDrive project brought relief to families struggling to survive. In partnership with the UPS Foundation and other compassionate Nigerians, we launched a food bank that provided raw food supplies to 1,500 households across Abuja and Nasarawa.
Each household averaged six members — reaching an estimated 9,000 lives. The initiative reminded us that even in times of crisis, empathy and unity can overcome hardship.
Training for Lawyers and Journalists

Partners: Global Rights, OSJI
In an era where the civic space faces increasing pressure, we brought together lawyers and journalists for an in-depth workshop focused on responsible reporting and legal awareness.
The training explored defamation laws, media ethics, and the role of professionals in defending free expression. Participants gained practical insights on how to promote truth, accountability, and compliance with Nigerian laws while maintaining journalistic freedom.
Civil Society Consortium in Defense of Civic Space

With the growing threats to freedom of speech, association, and assembly, TAP Initiative joined forces with Heinrich Böll Stiftung to form the Civil Society Consortium in Defense of Civic Space. The consortium brought together a diverse coalition of voices — civil society leaders, religious figures, community advocates, legal practitioners, journalists, women’s rights activists, and persons with disabilities — all united to safeguard civic freedoms. Together, they provide support and representation for victims of human rights violations and amplify advocacy for an open, democratic Nigeria.
Corruption Victimization Survey in Primary Health Care Facilities (FCT)

The study revealed key challenges — including informal payments, weak accountability, and infrastructure gaps. Findings were presented to the FCT Primary Health Care Board to prompt immediate action and improve transparency in healthcare delivery.
