Tap Initiative for Citizens Development Launches iReportINEC Platform to Strengthen Citizen Participation and Electoral Accountability in Nigeria

Tap Initiative for Citizens Development, with support from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and the National Election Accountability Consortium (NEAC), is pleased to announce the launch of iReportINEC, a groundbreaking digital platform designed to enhance citizen participation, promote electoral transparency, and strengthen accountability within Nigeria’s electoral system.

The launch of iReportINEC which is available on the Google Play Store (on Android devices) and the Apple Store (on iOS devices), marks an important milestone in the effort to deepen democratic governance by providing citizens with an accessible and secure platform to report electoral issues, monitor the implementation of electoral reforms, and engage constructively with the electoral process.

iReportINEC is an innovative civic technology platform that enables citizens to document and report electoral incidents, complaints, and observations throughout the electoral cycle. The platform allows users to submit reports on issues such as voter registration challenges, election-day irregularities, campaign violations, electoral violence, vote-buying, and other concerns that may affect the integrity of elections. Through structured data collection and analysis, iReportINEC helps generate evidence-based insights that can support advocacy, policy reforms, and institutional accountability.

Beyond incident reporting, iReportINEC serves as a bridge between citizens and electoral stakeholders by amplifying the voices of voters and encouraging greater public participation in safeguarding democratic processes. The platform promotes timely reporting, enhances public awareness of electoral rights and responsibilities, and contributes to a more transparent and responsive electoral environment.

Speaking on the launch, the Executive Director of Tap Initiative for Citizens Development, Mr. Mbasekei Martin Obono stated:

“Democracy thrives when citizens are active participants rather than passive observers. iReportINEC empowers Nigerians to play a meaningful role in protecting the integrity of elections by providing a credible platform for reporting electoral concerns and contributing to evidence-based electoral reforms. This initiative reinforces our commitment to strengthening democratic accountability and ensuring that every citizen’s voice matters.”

The initiative is supported by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and the National Election Accountability Consortium (NEAC), whose continued commitment to democratic governance and civic participation has made the development and deployment of iReportINEC possible

As Nigeria continues to consolidate its democracy, citizen-generated data and independent monitoring remain essential tools for improving electoral integrity. By making it easier for citizens to report incidents and contribute to electoral oversight, iReportINEC complements the efforts of election management bodies, civil society organizations, the media, and other stakeholders working to strengthen free, fair, and credible elections.

Tap Initiative for Citizens Development calls on citizens, political parties, civil society organizations, youth groups, election observers, community leaders, and other democratic actors to actively utilize iReportINEC as a platform for constructive engagement and collective action toward improving Nigeria’s electoral process.
